white areas on leaves Empty white areas on leaves

my platyloba passi recently started showing whites marks on leaves. they are inbetween its veins, starting from the outside of the leaf and extend almost to the center vein. I dont think it sunburn because they were doing fine in the spot they have been in. I did change their fertilizer because the one I was giving them lacked some important nutrients. does anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Hey,

Fortunately for us figuring out a plants problems is just a simple case of process of elimination. There are four main reasons a plants leaves would act this way.
1. Sunburn
2. Fertilizer burn
3. Temps are causing the plant to start towards dormancy with leaf die back.
4. a virus.

Right away out of the listed I would rule out virus so you can work out between the remaining three. As you said you dont thinks its sunburn because you have not changed its lights then your dwon to two( though I have really only seen leaves like that from sunburn)
The remaining two are temps and fertz. Giving that its now fall you might want to see if its not the cold nights that are doing it. And finally you mentioned you recently changed the fertz. I have moved to organic compost and organic fertz, but I woud recomend a light fertilizer such as a easy bloom or organic root booster instead of any artificial fertilizer that might shock the plant. The difference between a fertilizer burn and sunburn on a plant are as followed. Fertilizer is absorbed and extended to the leaves through the viens, fertilizer burn is then noticed more so in the vains of the leaves then the leaf itself like sunburn does. I would say in my oppinion its ether sunburn or temps. And if you swear its not sunburn then you should have your answer. Sorry I wrote so much I figure this can help in the future as well with process of elimination.

And as to what to do,
Bring the plant to a warmer location maybe indoors.
For fertilizer worries flush the soil pot with a few gallons of water to remover any excess fertilizer that might be causing damage.
For sunburn, remove all ugly leaves and just let new growth start.

Hey Tropique,

I can not figure out what liver is unless its leter? How much should a dormant passiflora be watered in a garden, or in your home? Im very sorry. If the plant goes dormant Then ether way it should almost never be watered. If its outside then nature should keep them wet enough from rains or snows. (If there is snow make sure there is a good mulch or messege me for an easy way to grow the roots to a safe depth) If they are in pots, then just water them lightly when the soil gets really dry. They dont use to much water and the roots end up sitting and rotting in the damp soil. If this didnt answer what you were asking just let me know and ill change this.
