Ideas for the future of passiflora
Hello to all,
I would like to start this topic to discuss possible ways to increase not only passiflora society international memberships and ways to increase donation money to psi to fund future trips or research, as well as ways to increase general collections of passiflora in different parts of the world. I have a few ideas to offer that will help but I figure it could only benefit to communicate with other here that are interested in helping to form a large post here where we can collaborate many great ideas. Please feel free to post your ideas as anything helps. I'll post my response in a week or so if this gets any posts. Thanks for your help. Happy new year! Nick

Re: Ideas for the future of passiflora
My first public idea is a proposal of a community donation of a set amount and a community passiflora photo entree leading to a selectionand creation of the first annual passiflora society international calendar. Created by members using photos from entered pictures that everyone can vote on for the 12 selected pictures each year. The number of created and sold copies will remain strictly from member donations and all money earned goes to psi donations for future trips or meetings. I know I would buy a calendar made from photos we have taken, and our families would love them. Tell me what you think, im willing to set this up including photo entree and such. Even donate the first 100. Any ideas are welcome. I will be throwing out a few more ideas for discussion later this week. Thank you. Nick

Re: Ideas for the future of passiflora
Three years this has been sitting there waiting for a reply. I see why you want more members and more publicity.
I'm new here but since no one else has replied, I'll give my thoughts.First, your idea was a good one, and from the Passiflora Society International website, it appears other people thought so and acted on it.
Locally, I am thinking that passifloras need to get out where the public can see them. It is county fair time, and the county fairs have flowe shows. Next year, it is too late for this year, I'll have passifloras in the show. Many people will see passifloras for the first time. Some will want to grow them themselves.
In the spring, Wichita, KS, which is about 100 miles away, has a flower show. There will be passifloras there, I'll see to that. Again, some will decide to try growing them.
This is a very small start, but it is better than sitting on my hands.
I'm also trying to get more variation into the hardy passifloras from P. incarnata, and I know someone else who is working to breed P. lutea with other species to get more hardy passifloras. I'm sorry I can't think of his name just now.
So get more kinds available, and more kinds out where they can be seen. The flowers will sell themselves.
