Grew up in San Diego growing all sorts of exotics, especially orchids. Then moved to NM where I focused on Sequoiadendron, being somewhat on the edge of the climate for that tree. Also have a small fruit farm with an irrigation pond and there got into cold hardy bamboo, bald cypress and cold hardy water lilies (though right now pond is home to a beaver family that is enjoying the lily roots). Just moved to Santa Barbara and am in the processes of learning how to plant a food forest (been into the Permaculture/Organic thing for years). I have always wanted to grow passiflora and I have several trees and fences which I plan to populate with several edible varieties (gophers already ate one of 4 despite the gopher bag). Other current areas of exploration, plants for butterflies, hummingbirds and to grow near a swimming pool. Interested in all perennial food plants/grasses for Mediterranean Climate. Other major interests, travel, medicine, yoga, surfing/kiteboarding.
